Sculptra (Collagen Biostimulator Treatment)

Sculptra is not a filler. It doesn't add volume from the outside, it rebuilds your skin's own collagen from within, restoring the structural foundation that supports your face and addressing the underlying cause of facial ageing rather than masking its effects.
The results are gradual, natural, and long-lasting, up to two years from a course of treatment. For clients who want meaningful, lasting improvement without an overdone or artificial look, Sculptra is one of the most powerful tools in aesthetic medicine.
What Is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable biostimulator containing poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). A biodegradable, biocompatible substance that has been used safely in medicine for decades. Unlike hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, which physically fill an area to create volume, Sculptra stimulates your skin's fibroblasts, the specialised cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin, to rebuild your skin's structural foundation over time.As Sculptra is gradually absorbed by the body over approximately two years, the new collagen framework it has stimulated remains, providing natural structure, firmness, and lift that continues to improve long after the treatment is done.
Why Collagen Matters
From around the age of 26, the body loses approximately 1% of its collagen every year. Over time this leads to the gradual changes we associate with facial ageing, loss of volume and lift in the cheeks, softening of the jawline, hollowing at the temples, and increasing skin laxity. Most injectable treatments address these changes by adding volume. Sculptra addresses them by rebuilding the collagen that has been lost. Clinical studies have shown that Sculptra increases type 1 collagen production by up to 60%, the collagen type most responsible for skin firmness, structure, and resilience.
How Is Sculptra Different From Dermal Filler?
Dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid to physically fill an area, providing immediate volume and correction. Results are visible straight away and typically last 9 to 18 months. Fillers are excellent for targeted volume, defined contouring, and areas requiring precise structural support.
Sculptra works differently. There is no immediate result, the improvement develops gradually over several weeks and months as collagen production increases. Results peak at around 6 months and can last up to 2 years. Rather than filling, Sculptra improves the quality, firmness, and structural support of the skin itself. The two treatments complement each other well. Georgia can advise on the right approach, or combination, for your specific concerns at your consultation.
What Sculptra Treats
Sculptra is particularly effective for:
- Loss of volume and lift in the cheeks and mid-face
- Softening of the jawline and pre-jowl area
- Temple hollowing
- Nasolabial folds and facial contour deficiencies
- General skin laxity and loss of firmness
- Crepiness in the neck and décolletage
- Overall facial ageing where the structural foundation has been affected
Sculptra by Age Group
Sculptra isn't just for clients with advanced signs of ageing. The right approach varies depending on where you are and what you want to achieve.
Late 20s to early 30s: Prevention and collagen preservation. At this stage, collagen loss is already underway but volume loss isn't yet established. Small amounts of Sculptra in the lateral cheeks, pre-auricular area, and early temple hollow help maintain skin thickness and delay visible ageing. Think prevention, not reshaping.
Mid 30s to mid 40s: Restoring support and skin quality. Fat pad descent and collagen loss are more established at this stage. Sculptra in the mid-face, temples, and jawline restores lift and longevity without the heaviness that HA fillers can sometimes create. An excellent option for clients who want natural, long-lasting improvement.
Late 40s and beyond: Structural support and tissue quality. Volume loss is often global at this stage, and HA filler alone can look short-lived or unnatural in larger amounts. Sculptra improves the structural scaffold the face sits on, treating the full mid-face, jawline, chin, and neck over multiple sessions.
What to Expect: Treatment and Timeline
Sculptra is typically delivered across 2 to 3 treatment sessions spaced several weeks apart. The number of vials per session varies depending on your individual treatment plan, which we will discuss at your consultation. Results begin to appear within the first month as collagen production increases, with most clients seeing the most significant improvement at around 3 to 6 months. Results are sustained for up to 2 years.Treatment involves topical numbing cream for comfort. You may experience mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising for a few days following treatment, this is normal and expected.
Sculptra Aftercare
Aftercare is an important part of achieving smooth, even results with Sculptra. The most important element is massage, starting from the day of treatment. Massage the treated areas 5 times per day for 5 minutes each time for 5 consecutive days. Use clean hands and light to moderate pressure. A bland moisturiser can be used to reduce friction.
We will provide personalised aftercare instructions at your appointment.
